If you have just installed FingerText, there should be no snippets in your FingerText snippet database yet. To install the default snippet package:
- Go to Plugin > FingerText > Install Default Snippet Package
- FingerText may ask you what you want to do when there is a conflict between the imported snippets and existing snippets. If you are new to FingerText and do have have your custom snippets yet. You can just click "No" and proceed. And "No" means you want to overwrite existing snippets in case of conflicts. However, if you have some snippets of your own and you want to keep them, you may want to choose "Yes" to keep both versions.
- After a few seconds, there should be a message box saying "xxx snippets are imported". And you have successfully imported the FingerText Default Snippet Package.
- To try it out, you can type
lorem
and hit the key [tab]. You can see the the word lorem disappear and a bunch of lorem ipsum text is inserted to your document. This shows that the FingerText Default Snippets Package is successfully installed. - You can see a list of available snippets on the SnippetDock. For example, date, directory, mit, shebang .....etc. You can try to trigger them and see want it does.
The basics of Fingertext is to type a triggertext and trigger snippets. But Fingertext can so a lot more then simple text substitution. Just go back to the Main Page and pick a topic under "Beyond the Basics" to know more about the powerful functionality provided by Fingertext.
