Tools We Use

Allen Clark edited this page Jan 21, 2016 · 5 revisions

The tools below are common to many of Friendly Code and Code for America's projects and communication.

Github

Is a collaborative development workflow. Additional third party tools can be used in conjunction with Github.

Following are some useful tools:

  • Waffle: A simple project management tool. Here is the Shoveling Snow Angels' Waffle.
  • Waffle FAQ
  • Prose: It's a web-based interface for managing content on GitHub. Use it to create, edit, and delete files, and save your changes directly to GitHub.

Slack

Slack is an open team communication tool. Our preference is to use Slack over email for two main purposes. First, nothing is lost, conversations and information shared remains in the channel chronologically and can also be searched. Secondly, it is open to everyone which spreads knowledge equally and enables new members to get up to speed by reading the history of a channel.

Anyone at Friendly Code can add you to our Slack Team. From there all conversations about this project are in the #project-snowangels channel.

  • Take a tour of Slack, take a few moments and enjoy the video tour
  • Slack also offers desktop and mobile applications
