About the PR

Commented out medtek's existence and also the handheld medical scanner's from most of the sources. Now, the CMO has one in their locker, and you can buy more in the emergency advanced medical kits. However, some special PDAs(Like the agent PDA) still has the medtek. Also added the bodyscanner board recipe to the circuit printer. Syndicate people also have combat kits where they can buy a medical analyzer.

Why / Balance

Most damages are already viewable and guessable through the health examine, and honestly. Kinda all you need for high stress situations if everyone's shot, burnt or whatever. With this, medical will need to check damages on a patient in a scanning room if they're poisoned or whatnot, which I hope will make medical less of a just walk in and get healed sort of place, and give people more time to RP("Doc, what is it?" "You have cancer."). So, you can check it with a bodyscanner in the OR or in the cryopods.

Changelog
🆑 Xcybitt

  • add: Added the bodyscanner computer board to circuit printers!
  • tweak: Added some stuff to filled medkits to balance out losing the medical scanners.
  • remove: Removed the medtek's existence alongside most of the sources of the handheld medical scanner. Now, you have to guesstimate your patients OR check their health in a cryopod or bodyscanner.

Hmmm. To be honest, I don't see a real reason for this. I feel like it would just be annoying rather than serving any meaningful purpose. This wouldn't be some small change to increase RP but quite the massive one that'd fundamentally change everything else as well. Not to mention it'd make learning med innately more hostile to newer players, especially whenever there's an influx of patients so you quite literally cannot scan people.

In short, this change seems like it'd be more fitting for HRP than MRP.

Important to note that Funky dropped the MRP tag on its server names weeks (if not months) ago. Try not to justify things on the basis of vague levels of roleplay.

I am very much in favor of removing the handheld scanning, however I do think there needs to be a proper way to scan for damages that's not using a tool very much so not meant for that purpose. Taking someone into surgery or cryo just to scan their damage, and then taking them back to their room, just feels very wrong to me. Not to mention taking someone unmaksed into surgery or the cold damage from a brief cryo dip.

To do this I think their needs to be a dedicated scanning tool that is stationary. Like a single normal bed (not surgery table) with an attached computer. Or other forms of damage need to be added to the health inspect menu.

I feel like this is something that should be discussed at length before ever implementing, this would massively change the medical system and I don't think for the better. Either every single bed should have it's own mapped medical scanning computer before this could be considered.

I don't think I would lead to any interesting role-playing, you're basically just making something more difficult, and I don't think people would find it fun either which imo is even more important.

keeping this just drafted for now, but yeah deffo haven't thought about this through enough, it realistically would just be anti QoL slop for the sake of it since well, didn't exactly give an alternative

Like I said, I do think this change would be good (let fellow med players mald), I would just consider the following two things:

  • Look at what damage is visible in the health inspect, consider what damage you would want visible in this and what not. (not sure if poison is visible, personally I'd like it to be because it's very common, and zombies)
  • Consider how stationary scanning tools can be used, and how they should be mapped. I think the best thing would be a dedicated bed for scanning, perhaps in it's own room. (I wouldn't do a computer on every bed since thats just health analyzer with extra steps)

13's way of doing it I think is peak, ill boot up my private server after work to show off because I do think med scanners could be removed after some changes. So, on 13, the inspection details on yourself are way more detailed, e.g "My right arm is frozen to the bone. My left leg is bleeding profusely. My chest is slightly bruised. I feel sick to my stomach."

But then in medical, each bed is linked to a in depth medical scanner computer, that again, goes into way more detail, down to what's in the person's bloodstream, stomach, and the exact numbers of damage, if bones are broken etc.

I think if we had those two systems med scanners would be pretty much redundant, and could easily be removed

Something like a more futuristic CT scanner in its own room (and operated by a doctor in a separate room) would be peak. It could even irradiate the patient a little bit as the price to pay for getting all medical info about them. It would make medical RP a lot more intricate by forcing doctors to split into diagnosticians that run the scanners and physicians that treat the patients. They could have triage like real hospitals, since scanning would no longer be instantaneous, so they'd sort patients by urgency. Simple cases could be treated based on visuals and patient complaints, while complex cases would need the patient to get scanned. Without something like this to replace the handheld scanner, just removing it makes medical gameplay more annoying and much harder to learn.

i would LOVE something like this. i want doctors to be encouraged to use their eyes more and have to ask patients questions about what happened to them. it would be fun

Absolutely love this. I'll add this to my to-do list to make a design doc for and pr it, if no one else beats me to it.

An alternative fitting into the cassette futurism theme would be a big and bulky scanner, giving a printout with all the details of a patient (damage, blood level, maybe bloodstream contents etc)

Yeah, that's the direction I started going in when I started writing the proposal document for this machine. It's still called a CT scanner, but it's inspired by the kind of CT scanners they had in the 80s or earlier, not the hyper-modern type. The console that's linked to the scanner will be able to print out scan results, but it still will have a UI for some other features. If you're interested, I posted the full proposal at funky-station/docs#69 . Let me know what you think of it!
