As of #1094, Frontend now parses the short version identifier (e.g., v2024.2.1) from version.txt. With that in place, it's easy to show the version in a modal. I think that's a little nicer than opening version.txt in a separate tab.
What has been done to verify that this works as intended?
I've tried it out locally. However, this is a draft PR, and I haven't added tests yet.
Why is this the best possible solution? Were any other approaches considered?
