What changed

Reduced workshop/side-quest-01-02-environment-reference.md from 1,433 words to ~1,070 words (still above the 800-word ideal, but much closer) and added one interactive check:

  • Collapsed the nine "Conceptual screenshots" tool cards into two <details> groups (Development environments / Workshop tools and model options) instead of showing all nine expanded and stacked in sequence.
  • Trimmed each tool's caption from a full sentence to a short bold phrase, and trimmed the glossary table's "What it means" column to one clause per row.
  • Shortened verbose image alt text while keeping it descriptive for accessibility.
  • Added a short predict-then-reveal matching activity ("match the term to its role") before the version-check checkpoint, so the page isn't 100% passive reading until the very end.
  • Preserved the existing glossary table, Checkpoint section, all images/alt text, and the GHES/GHEC enterprise note unchanged in substance.

Learner pain point addressed

This page was the lowest-scoring file in the curriculum quality evaluator's corpus (4.9/10), flagged for high cognitive load (nearly 2x the 800-word target) and low active-learning density (nine near-identical image+caption pairs read passively in a row with no intermediate self-check). Learners visiting this reference glossary had to scroll through a long, low-interactivity stretch before reaching any checkpoint.

Why it helps workshop flow

Making the screenshot section collapsible lets learners jump straight to the tool they need instead of scrolling past all nine. The shorter captions keep the glossary table as the single source of truth instead of duplicating information in prose. The new mid-page matching activity gives learners a low-stakes way to check their understanding of frequently-confused terms (gh vs gh aw vs Copilot CLI) before they reach the final checkpoint, aligning with the workshop's action-oriented, checkpoint-driven style.

Reduces the lowest-scoring curriculum page (4.9/10, 1433 words) toward
the 800-900 word target by:
- collapsing the nine conceptual screenshots into two <details> groups
(development environments, workshop tools/models) instead of nine
  sequential full sections
- shortening per-tool glossary descriptions and image captions to short
  phrases instead of full sentences
- adding a short predict-then-reveal matching activity before the
version-check checkpoint to raise interactivity mid-page

Addresses the curriculum-eval issue for
workshop/side-quest-01-02-environment-reference.md (cognitive_load and
active_learning dimensions), while preserving the existing checkpoint,
all images/alt text, and the enterprise (GHES/GHEC) note.
