Welcome to the woo-poly-integration wiki! We suggest you review the Getting Started guide first. Also, before using the product, please make sure you have WooCommerce and basic Wordpress-Polylang translation working. This is not a commercial product, it's entirely free and open source, and support is by volunteers in their spare time only, so please check you have understood and followed the basics before reporting any problems.

Overview

woo-poly-integration provides shop managers with a lightweight open-source solution for a complete translation of the shop, including:

  • Product Title, Descriptions, Categories, Tags, Attributes
  • Shipping Methods, Payment Methods, Order Emails, Tax strings etc
  • Extensive options regarding types of data to be synchronised or translated between different language versions of the same product - see Settings Features and Metas.

This solution does not automatically use Google Translate or other translation tool: if an internet user wants automatic translation there are plenty of browser tools which they can use to do this, however automatic translation is just not good enough for convincing customer service.

Similarly this solution does not link to a network of translators, and at the time of writing is not retested with the Polylang Lingotek solution which has previously been tested negatively.

Instead the tool currently does a simple copy-source text to help the translation process.

The most common scenario is that the shop team are doing the translation into the languages in which the team is able to offer customer service.
The recommendation is not to translate to languages in which the shop cannot provide customer service: if you just outsourced the translation to a language you don't understand then:

  • how do you check the translation quality?
  • how do you answer detailed customer questions? The shop team should be the product experts and know or learn the important terminology for their product in the target languages.
