Walkthrough
FirmwareUpdate now supports readiness gates and a configurable Server completion condition. The controller evaluates gates during reconciliation and updates the completion condition during firmware update work and repository checks.
Changes: Firmware update readiness and completion

Summary
Readiness-gating API contract api/common_types.go, api/system/v1alpha1/firmwareupdate_types.go, api/system/v1alpha1/zz_generated.deepcopy.go, config/crd/bases/system.metal.ironcore.dev_firmwareupdates.yaml, config/crd/bases/system.metal.ironcore.dev_firmwareupdatesets.yaml, docs/api-reference/api.md
FirmwareUpdateTemplate embeds ReadinessGating. The FirmwareUpdate and FirmwareUpdateSet CRDs and API reference describe readinessGates and completionConditionType.
Controller readiness and condition lifecycle internal/controller/system/firmwareupdate_controller.go
The controller checks readiness gates in Pending and Completed states, manages the Server completion condition, and requeues eligible FirmwareUpdates when Server conditions change.
Repository checks update the Server completion condition when no packages are pending, when a check that began Completed finds pending packages, or when a periodic check fails.
Controller setup and readiness-chain validation internal/controller/suite_test.go, internal/controller/readinessgateschain_test.go
Test setup registers the FirmwareUpdate reconciler and accepts mock-server options. The readiness-chain test adds a Dell FirmwareUpdate gated on the prior step and checks its completion condition.

Readiness gating can still permit a retry after gates regress, and completion signals can be stale or premature. Resolve these conditions before merging unless their behavior is explicitly accepted.

Docstring Coverage
Docstring coverage is inconclusive: files from earlier reviews still need to be rechecked within the check's analysis limits. Not blocking.
Full details: Title check
Explanation
The title "Feat/firmware readiness gates" matches the main change. The changeset adds readinessGates and completionConditionType to FirmwareUpdate and FirmwareUpdateSet, and the controller enforces the gates before firmware work starts. The title uses a branch-style prefix ("Feat/") and is brief, but it still names the primary change clearly.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description does not follow the template fully. It has a "Proposed Changes" heading and a "Fixes #240" line, which matches the template's closing line. The Proposed Changes section has one line of text, "add readinessGates to firmware upgrade", and the template's three bullet points are missing. That line also omits the completion condition type, the controller and CRD changes, and the readiness gate behavior for Pending, Completed, and Failed updates. The description is short, but it is on topic and links the issue. It is mostly complete.
Resolution
Expand the Proposed Changes section into bullet points, as the template shows. Suggested points: add readinessGates to FirmwareUpdate and FirmwareUpdateTemplate; add completionConditionType, which is patched to True on success and is immutable once set; update the controller to gate Pending, Completed, and Failed updates and to release maintenance when gates regress; regenerate the CRDs and API docs.
Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue #240 requires readiness gating for firmware upgrade resources. The PR adds readinessGates to FirmwareUpdate and FirmwareUpdateTemplate, updates both CRD schemas and documentation, implements gate checks across pending, waiting, retry, and completed paths, records gate status, and adds readiness-gate chain coverage. The linked coding requirement is satisfied.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
The changes remain connected to issue #240. completionConditionType handling, Server condition RBAC, Dell repository polling, generated deepcopy code, documentation, and test-harness changes support readiness-gate chaining or its verification. The ignored dist/** files do not establish missing or unrelated changes. No unrelated change is demonstrated.

Adds a ReadinessGating type (ReadinessGates + CompletionConditionType) inlined
into FirmwareUpdateTemplate, allowing a FirmwareUpdate to require a set of
Server conditions to be satisfied before being marked ready, and to propagate
a completion condition back onto the Server once satisfied. Readiness gates
are re-checked on every resync while the FirmwareUpdate is Completed to catch
regressions in sibling resources.

Create step 6 while step5Done is not True.
The test creates step 6 only after step5Done is already True. The t5 <= t6 assertion checks ordering, but it does not prove that step 6 stayed blocked. A controller that ignores the readiness gate can therefore pass this test.
Create step 6 before step 5 becomes ready, assert that it remains incomplete while step5Done is unsatisfied, then assert completion after step5Done becomes True.

Check readiness gates before starting a Failed-state retry.
If a readiness gate becomes unsatisfied after a FirmwareUpdate fails, ensureResetBeforeRetry can still request maintenance, reset the BMC, and power-cycle the Server. The Pending-state gate check occurs only after these operations. Check the current Server conditions before starting retry recovery, and wait without resetting hardware when a gate is unsatisfied.
