Techrep is a simple XML-based system suitable for preparing and processing technical reports or similar publications. It has been used by CESNET since 2007 for publishing its technical reports in HTML and PDF formats (plus an RSS feed) and – from the same XML sources – annual proceedings of selected reports under the title Networking Studies.
Authors may prepare their source texts in one of the following formats:
- Techrep version 2, also described in TR 1/2010
- Techrep version 1 (deprecated)
- Open Document Text (used e.g. by OpenOffice)
- LaTeX
- DocBook
- reStructuredText
All these input formats are first automatically converted to Techrep version 2 and then translated via XSLT to HTML, TeX, EPUB and RSS. The TeX source is then typeset using a special plain TeX format which is also a part of the Techrep v2 distribution.
For CESNET technical reports we use XeTeX and the beautiful Baskerville OpenType fonts. Because of this, the plain TeX format needs minor modifications before it can be used with other versions of TeX and/or other fonts.
The XSLT stylesheets and other tools needed for the tasks described above are included in this Github project, see the ReadMe file for the description of individual files. The software is provided under the GPLv3 licence in the hope that it could be useful to others, but without any warranties.
