Philosophy

I released my first Moodle plugin the Gapfill Question type in 2012 and it is installed on more than 4,000 sites. The AIText question type represents a continuation of my efforts to provide easy to use formative assessment tools for teachers. This question type should not be used for summitive assessment because of the typically helpfull but variable nature of the responses from AI Systems.

It requires access to an external Large Language Model (AI System) which defaults to ChatGPT from OpenAI. However I am committed to ensuring it works with as many other systems as possible, with an emphasis on Free/OpenSource systems, e.g. Ollama https://github.com/ollama/ollama

This type of technology is not, and in my view cannot be a replacement for feedback from teachers, but it may offer some help in giving almost immediate feedback. Students should be made explicitly aware of the source of the feedback in addition to the disclaimer appended to each item of feedback.
