EcoImpact is an innovative online platform that empowers users to understand and reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions related to everyday activities. With its user-friendly interface, EcoImpact calculates the carbon footprint of various activities and provides personalized recommendations for sustainable alternatives. Additionally, the platform offers a curated list of organizations that users can donate to, enabling them to actively contribute to the fight against climate change.

Greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4), are primarily responsible for the global climate crisis. They trap heat in the Earth's atmosphere, leading to rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and detrimental impacts on ecosystems and human societies.

File Structure

The EcoImpact file comprises a Django project named EcoImpact, which includes a single app called App1. The HTML and CSS files are authored and stored within the App1 directory under the templates and static folders, respectively. The website utilizes SQLite databases as the database system. The models utilized in the website are defined within the models.py file in the app. The URL configurations and corresponding views are written in the urls.py and views.py files within the app. To launch the application, the manage.py file is used.


Installation

Django is a high-level Python web framework that simplifies and streamlines the development of robust and scalable web applications. After installing django and python, follow the steps below.

  1. Clone the repository

    git clone https://github.com/mathewalex806/EcoImpact
  2. CD into the directory till you're in the manage.py directory and then start the sever by running the following command in the terminal:

     python manage.py runserver
  3. Open any browser and enter the following URL:

    http://127:0.0.1:8000/
  4. To access the admin page, enter the following URL:

     http://127:0.0.1:8000/admin
  5.  Username: admin
     Password: 1234
  6. To use the API used in this project, visit the following URL:

     https://www.climatiq.io/
