About
Windows is the most popular OS on the market, due to it being easy to use, and it being shoved down everyone's throats. But there are some setbacks. For example, Digital Rights Management (DRM). Microsoft tells you and controls what you can and cannot do, which is one reason why they seem to be high on the "Public Enemies" list of Defective By Design.
I realized that the reason Windows became so popular (besides it coming preloaded on most PCs) was due to USABILITY! Anyone can figure the thing out, even if this is the first computer you've ever used. But, I also realized that meant Microsoft could do whatever the heck they wanted with it. So I set out to create this: an OS, like Windows, but with more usability. The user had full control over the computer, and it would be open source so they could modify the source either for everybody, e.g. fixing a security bug; or just for their project, e.g. adding a CLI or commands.
Bits of this were covered in the last bit but it could work for the following reasons:
- Windows is notorious for malware. I believe I once got a How-To-Geek newsletter saying something to the effect of "Windows just patched 120 security holes". An OS that popular shouldn't have that many security flaws.
- It's familiar! Almost everybody knows Windows. But because of the things that were mentioned above in "Why this thing was started", it's flawed. This would make it way easier for people who want to "Close Windows Open doors" to do that.
So there. More is coming. But that is the end for now of About.
