Welcome to WebWhirr!
The obvious question to answer is: why?
First off: I am curious. I wanted to know how HTML rendering engines work, so I started writing one.
Second: I am a self-taught programmer, and I want to learn more about techniques. Within WebWhirr, there are probably many things that could be written more efficiently. (For that matter, I'm sure there are.) But by writing this program, I hope to learn about those and have more experience for the future. (Being a computer science major at Harvey Mudd College also won't hurt.)
Finally: Because of the above two considerations, it is important to note that WebWhirr will probably never get to the point of becoming a browser suitable for daily use. Instead, it will probably become a worthwhile project that teaches me a lot--but will probably have little benefit to the rest of the world.
WebWhirr has been a lot of fun. I'm going to keep working on it for as long as I can.
