As discussed on Slack, SMI community meetings are on hiatus until October 12th to allow time for maintainers and community members to focus on the GAMMA launch.

What is the relationship between SMI and GAMMA now?

As per https://smi-spec.io/blog/announcing-smi-gateway-api-gamma/:

To that end, members of the Istio, SMI, and SIG Network communities have come together to collaborate on mesh use cases in the Gateway API project, starting a new group for Gateway API Mesh Management and Administration — the GAMMA Initiative. Together, we will investigate, design, and track Gateway API resources, semantics, and other artifacts related to service mesh technology and use-cases while seeking consistency between implementations of the Gateway API by service mesh projects.

Working within CNCF gives us the opportunity to build platforms that extend and integrate into Kubernetes. As these communities grow, we see additional opportunities to act as force multipliers. We’re excited to work together and for the entire cloud native community to enjoy the fruits of our collaboration.
