Rather than continuing to try to maintain backwards compatibility, we are going to add a new top-level definition form (possibly "domain", but name TBD), and then we can make backwards-incompatible changes that are easier to author and to maintain.

haven't read the proposal yet, but name it define-domain so sly/slime will highlight it right.
