DMXOPL v1.10 Final (14 August 2017)
Changes in this release:
- Flute is now with a faster attack. Makes SAILING.MID sound better.
- Acoustic Piano is now 2-op once more. I didn't want to do this, but given how BTSX music uses lots of piano, this had to be done to relieve channel pressure. To remedy this, I used the Yamaha PSR-2 patch as a base and tweaked it for KSR. Sounds pretty good considering it's 2-op!
- Oboe is now quieter, it was just way too loud and drowned out leads when used. FF7 Main theme now works!
NOTE: Acoustic piano is using -12 semitone offset, this may cause problems, I am not sure yet. It doesn't cause issues in source ports. I'll release a hotfix if this is the case.
DMXOPL v1.10 Release Candidate 1 (10 August 2017)
This is a RC1 of DMXOPL v1.10.
Please feel free to incorprate this into your programs and FM banks. In fact, it's best that you do so, as this version fixes a lot of problems.
Changes in this release:
- DMX has a bug where negative detune past -5 or so actually breaks some low notes, so moving some of those to a positive value fixes them.
- Tweaked Slap Basses a little more to reduce the high frequency, was a little too loud.
- Ride bell sounds like the real thing.
- Redid Sweep Pad completely to match SC-55.
- Jazz Guitar sounds a little better.
- Warm Pad is now warmer (heh).
- Brass Section, Sawtooth and Square patches tweaked. Finally ROTT sounds listenable.
- Supplice work determined the Atmosphere patch sounded goofy (and was a Paul Radek holdover) so it was destroyed and recreated with the SC-55 patch in mind. Good riddance to that old patch, I hated it with a passion.
- Pedal Hat has also been redone and no longer sounds like "vwee fwee fee" so that's good.
- Echo Drops and Synth Vox get a much-deserved overhaul.
- Synth String 1 changed to match SC-55 a little better.
- Removed the "Beating" sounds in String Ensemble 2 due to a redundant vibrato flag being set.
DMXOPL v1.9.1 "Test this garbage first" edition
Piano was WAYYY too loud. DMX is dumb.
DMXOPL v1.9 July Special
This release fixes a lot of the most-requested issues I received.
Changes:
- Slap Bass is now sounding like one
- More percussion added, hi-hats fixed up
- String instruments fixed up
- Pulse Sines removed, they clashed terribly otherwise
- Piano is now better (but now uses double voice, deal with it)
- Mixing has been improved, although more can be done here, I'm just sick of fiddling with it
So yeah, grab this release and try it out.
NOTE: D_RUNNIN sounds different because the Slap Bass was fixed. It does sound weird at first because we didn't notice that instrument was playing. I sure didn't, anyway.
Next Release will be fixing up volumes for Back To Saturn X, I found a few issues there.
DMXOPL v1.8.2
This release fixes the whistle percussion.
This release will be uploaded on /idgames as of today.
This will be the last release of v1.x, unless someone points out some bugs in some midis.
NOTE: the "2 commits ahead" message is incorrect, I forgot to push those commits. Whoops!
"Don't Release So Fast" Release
I fixed the flute velocities, they were still too quiet for my liking.
Maintenance/bugfix release
Many many tweaks in this version:
- Oboe now matches Fourier transforms
- Orchestra Hit redone.
- Clarinet redone.
- Nylon and Steel guitars redone.
- Trombone redone.
- Thanks to some VGMusic.com exploits, I found a lot of errors in percussion. FIXED.
- Changed String Ensemble 1 detune a bit.
DMXOPL seems to play well with everything I throw at it now, so I'm taking a break from the project. Feel free to add this version to your projects.
v1.7 ADLMidi Release
This release adds so much. Here's a quick summary:
- Mixing has been improved
- Instruments with bad attacks, releases and octaves have been improved
- Reeds overhauled
- Charang finally added
- Guitars finally "good"
This release was extensively tested with libADLMidi, and is ready for inclusion in that software. Additionally, an /idgames release happens today.
This is the last release for a while. Forty commits later, I'm finally satisfied with this.
v1.6 Final idgames version
This is the final release.
Any additional work will be towards a Vanilla-friendly version with reduced double voices.
Fixes:
- D_BUNNY now sounds correct. (Birds!)
- All of Ultimate Doom is covered.
- All percussion are now in, enjoy D_BETWEE !
- Freedoom support.
Issues:
- D_OPENIN may never be right. Bobby Prince put the French Horns so low into the mix that they're barely audible on SC55, and almost nonexistent on OPL. This is a limitation of the hardware, not the patch.
- Certain low notes in midis to exploit SC55 sample aliasing have been emulated, but not all of them. Most of them used by Bobby Prince have been covered, but there are still fan mods out there using this effect, like Cygnus IV.
v1.5 Hotfix edition
Lots of hotfixes in here for Ultimate Doom. I can't believe I forgot to test Episode 2.
