I'm releasing this one for GZDoom ADLMidi update (if there is one)

Changes:

  • New Synth Brass 1 (Thanks Patch93)
  • New Orchestra Hit (Subject to change)
  • New Timpani, French Horn and Acoustic Snare (Thanks @OlPainless !)
  • String Ensemble 1 attack tightened a bit
  • New Closed Hat sound, this one is much more tolerable.
  • New Star Theme for ROTT midis and other midis that use it

Feel free to incorporate this into your projects! Let me know if you use it in anything :3

PS: I'm thinking about picking the doom DMX file back up, but there is a lot to tweak. Only the Vanilla DMX op2 will be tweaked, because OPL Synth Emulation using DMX files in GZDoom is now redundant. Don't need it!

Oh Hi!

This is a maintenance release, with some new stuff I guess? some tweaks?

  • Added New Pad 4
  • Did a complete voice recalculation.
  • Started Power Kit and TR-808 kits! They are not done.
  • Old toms are back and better than they were before! They are not replicated on Power and TR kit yet.
  • All "LSB" numbers were moved to MSB. Whoops!
  • New age pad tweaked.
  • 5th wave pad tweaked to be less fuzzy. This was a bug!
  • Lead Bass pad volume beefed up a bit. Mr. Beefy.
  • Started tinkering with Brush kit. only one thing added though!
  • Piccolo envelope was changed, so marches now sound better.
  • New ride cymbals! These sound so much better.
  • Crash cymbals get a do-over.
  • New english horn, a little brighter.
  • New Choir Aahs! These may change later with some additions by @Papiezak.

And finally,

  • New Electric guitars! Thanks to Patch93 for doing these!

There is a new rock organ in the works (Started by @Papiezak) but for some reason it's not really working out yet. I'm looking into it!

Hello everyone! It's been a while! So what changed?

Changed these:

  • Lead 8
  • Pad 2
  • Koto (thanks @Papiezak )
  • Oboe
  • Muted Trumpet
  • Acoustic Bass
  • Timpani (Thanks @OlPainless)
  • A bunch of GS instruments that aren't really final yet: Jazz bass, 2600 Sine, etc.
  • Alto Sax
  • English Horn
  • Soprano Sax
  • Pan Flute
  • 5th Wave
  • Atmosphere pad
  • Cymbal tweaks, again
  • New Pizz String
  • Pad 1 gets an overhaul
  • Probably more I forgot about

Things that are new:

  • SFX! Well, kind of. they aren't in the WOPL yet, but they exist in the source. Go check them out.

Since GZDoom and Eternity Engine will have libADL support officially, the DMX version may not be updated as much as it once was. There is a little work being done on it to get the percussion correct for once, but that's about it.

Please note that I currently have no way to make a GM1-only version right now. I kind of dropped the ball on that.

This is only for ADLMIDI-related projects. There are some new things in here.

  • GS mode is now started! Only a few instruments are supported right now. I have no idea if this breaks compatibility with GS midis, because I don't know if ADLMIDI knows if I have touched a voice in a particular bank or not. Oh well. No percussion yet, because that's going to be another mountain for me to climb, unless someone else wants to take a stab at it.
  • New Synth Bass 2. Sounds loads better than the DMX-ey voice it replaces.
  • Added new Long and Short Guiros.
  • Lowered Vibraphone a little.
  • New Acoustic Grand. This one doesn't "beat" as much, I got a lot of complaints from someone trying to do some piano work with it and heard this awful "waowaowao" on higher octaves. How did I miss that?
  • New Chiffer to match SC-55. Kind of. Sort of.
  • New Pizzicato String. it's a little less boopy. Although sometimes it does sound like a weird steel drum sometimes (maybe it's just me)
  • Timpani now has some more attack on it.
  • Warm pad is less annoying.
  • Bass Lead is now softer.
  • Reorganized the work folder. Contribs now go into your respective folders. Should help with the problem of filename clashing.
  • Bank 8 and Bank 16 of GS has been added - well, some of it. Thanks @Papiezak for this incredible work. This is also the start of using pure 4-op - no need to use pseudo 2-op anymore if we don't have to, because these instruments will never be in the OP2.
  • New Toms and Whistles from @Papiezak were added. The toms are forever a work in progress.
  • New Music box because why not?

NO DMX version on this release, sorry. DMX has been on the back burner (which is silly since this was a Doom project at first huh?)

Thanks go to Alfonzo, Essel, Patch93, and others.

Yeah Happy New Year!

Changes:

  • Toms were "fixed"
  • Vanilla and normal OP2s had their Daiko Drums fixed

Wopl is still ahead of DMX versions for obvious reasons, but hey I'll include them. To use in Doom, download the OP2 versions (Vanilla is for Vanilla only), rename it to GENMIDI.op2 (if you need to) and load it with -file.

WOPL version is for anyone that uses Wohlstand's ADLMIDI in their project.

DMXOPL v2.10 Final (November 27, 2017)

EDIT: I added the Vanilla version back because of issues with DMX I forgot about.

I can't stop myself!

Changes since RC1:

  • Blown Bottle tweaked, it now sounds tolerable.
  • Brass Section attack tweaked to have chorus on the attack as well as the sustain. That was my fault.
  • Cor Anglais matches SC-55
  • Lead 5 (Charang) Sounds like SC-55
  • Pad 4 (Choir) sounds like SC-55
  • OPL2 support removed - it was getting old and sounded terrible compared to the OPL3 version, and no one was really using it. It was only there for MAME OPL2 support in ZDoom for low-end devices, but since the buffer issue was discovered and fixed (I think), OPL2 support seemed silly. No one will be using AdLib for this!

This likely will be the last release of the year, although I can feel that is already a lie because that's how this project has always been. "It's done" and then six months later, I'm still working on it. But I am taking a break, and giving all the projects that incorporate this a chance to "catch up" with all the changes.

Wooh. Please use this for your projects! And for the WOPL: I have no idea what volume model to use. I picked "Generic" as that was default in the bank editor, but if you wanna use another volume model, go ahead - as long as it sounds okay, I don't care.

DMXOPL v2.10 RC1 (November 20, 2017)

Honestly I just wanted an excuse to make a release before Thanksgiving.

Changes:

  • Lead 7 redone
  • String 2 attack moved up (WOPL only)
  • Banjo volume increased
  • Gunshot modified to be less annoying
  • Pad 2 (warm) matches SC55 now
  • Pad 8 (sweep) "matches" SC55 now
  • FX 6 (goblin) matches SC55 now
  • FX 2 (Soundtrack) matches SC55 now

If you're using Vanilla, you can use the original op2, as all of the issues were fixed concerning that. No more "Vanilla" version is needed, AFAIK.

To use this in Vanilla doom or Zdoom or anything really:

doom -file GENMIDI.op2

Doom doesn't care about file types, all that matters is that the name is GENMIDI.

If you want the WOPL version in ZDoom, bug Graf Zahl or whoever works on GZDoom now to add ADLMIDI support. Eternity Engine is getting it, no reason for GZDoom not to have it. DMX is becoming a pain in the butt to support.
