Design Decisions
An Axis is anything that can be scanned. This could be a spatial dimension, or something like power or frequency. It was decided not to make a distinction between spatial dimensions and other axis to provide better extendability and simplicity. This way, there is only one axis configuration, and all axis can be used anywhere. This also means that users are not forced into a specific scanning configuration. Sometimes, there are no spatial axis. Other times, there are only spatial axis.
In order for jogging and the points canvas to work, the framework needs to know which axis should be used for X and Y. These 'special' axis can be selected on the axis configuration screen. Once selected these axis will only be used for the points canvas and for the jogging
The graphical user interface was chosen to make it easy to configure and run in the same window.
