Folks have pointed out that this could would be more useful if it were apache+MIT license. This would open up @fabiobozzo & @smoyer64 to be able to take this code up to a 1.0, and would open up the number of projects that can rely on it.

As the author of ~99% of this code, I'm totally down with this, and vote to change the license moving forward, with past versions remaining under the GPL license for anyone who needs it as such.

I'd say we leave this open until July 31st for anyone who might want to chime in, then merge so we can keep folks unblocked.

Thanks for separating the MIT and Apache 2.0 licenses into separate files - this works well with my favorite license scanning tool which matches them to their SPDX identifer.

I would approve of any necessary license change, whatever helps out the usefulness of the project!
