The purpose of this PR is to address issue #1410. So far, I have briefly tested the changes with Firecracker trunk as well as QEMU v8.2.2. It appears work; however, it should be noted that I am not a hypervisor expert and this PR may be incomplete and/or wrong. Of course, I welcome any feedback.
