feat: support composable hook filters from @rolldown/pluginutils - #636
Plugins can now pass composable filter expressions (include, exclude, and, or, not, id, importerId, code, query) as the filter of resolveId, load, and transform, so the same filter works on every bundler. The builders from @rolldown/pluginutils are re-exported from unplugin/utils/filter, so plugin authors don't need a separate dependency:
Rolldown evaluates the filters natively, so unplugin passes them through unchanged.
Every other bundler evaluates them in unplugin. This includes Vite and Rollup, even when they support object filters natively, because Vite's dev server and Rollup ignore the array form and would run the handler for every module.
Matching rules follow native Rolldown, not @rolldown/pluginutils' interpreter. The two disagree:
String id and importerId patterns are globs resolved against the cwd, the same as in object filters.
Regexes are tested on ids with / separators.
Expressions whose input a hook doesn't have, such as code in load, don't match.
A string id in resolveId, or importerId outside resolveId, throws the same error Rolldown throws.
moduleType() only exists in Rolldown. On other bundlers it throws at plugin setup instead of being silently ignored.
A parity test runs each expression form natively in Rolldown and through unplugin's evaluation on the same module graph, then checks that both give the same result. The cross-bundler test also covers Vite's dev server.
@rolldown/pluginutils is a regular dependency. It is now stable at 1.x, small, has no dependencies of its own, and Rolldown and Vite 8 users already have it installed, so the version-coupling concern in the issue no longer applies.
This PR was created with the help of an agent.
Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Added composable filters for matching module IDs, importers, code, and queries with inclusion, exclusion, and boolean expressions.
Added a public filter utility entry point with builders for creating these expressions.
Improvements
Resolve filters can now match on the importer across supported bundlers.
Rolldown supports native module-type filters; using these filters with other bundlers reports an error.
Documentation
Expanded the filter guide with examples, glob matching, and bundler-specific limitations.

Walkthrough
The PR adds composable filter expressions for resolveId, load, and transform. It exports filter utilities, updates bundler adapters to pass importer values to resolve filters, and adds cross-bundler tests and guide documentation.
Resolve filters receive both the module ID and importer. Rollup selects native array-filter support based on the framework, and the webpack-like cached filter uses the hook’s idFilter.
Cross-bundler validation and guide test/unit-tests/filter/*, test/unit-tests/filter/parity-src/*, docs/guide/index.md
Tests exercise composed filters across bundlers and compare Unplugin filter results and errors with Rolldown. The guide describes filter expressions and support restrictions.
unjs/unplugin#522: The guide documents include and exclude usage, which overlaps with the issue’s questions about those filters, but does not address debugging.

The title "feat: support composable hook filters from @rolldown/pluginutils" matches the main change. The raw summary shows composable filter expressions added to resolveId, load, and transform through filter.ts, the new unplugin/utils/filter export, and the @rolldown/pluginutils dependency. Explanation
Issue #508 requests @rolldown/pluginutils as an optional dependency. The PR implements composable filters, updates hook types, adds evaluation and re-exports, and adds tests. However, package.json declares @rolldown/pluginutils as a regular production dependency. The PR description explains this choice but does not satisfy the issue's optional-dependency requirement.
Resolution
Declare @rolldown/pluginutils as an optional dependency, or update the linked issue requirement if the regular-dependency design is intended.

Add 42 to the excluded entry.js fixture so the exclusion is tested.
test-src/entry.js has no 42. The include(and(id(/\.js$/), code('42'))) branch therefore rejects it on its own. If exclude(id(/entry\.js$/)) stops working, entry.js still does not reach transform, and the toHaveBeenCalledTimes(1) assertion still passes. The exclusion rule is untested.
Adding 42 to entry.js closes the gap. The include branch then matches entry.js, so only the exclusion keeps it out of transform. If the exclusion breaks, transform runs for entry.js and the existing count assertion fails.

Update the entry.js test fixture used by the composable-filter test to include
the value 42, so it matches the include branch’s code('42') condition and only
exclude(id(/entry\.js$/)) keeps it from reaching transform.
Add a non-JavaScript fixture for moduleType('js') coverage.
Both imported fixtures, mod.js and not-expect.js, are JavaScript files. If Rolldown ignores moduleType('js'), the test can still pass because it checks only that mod.js reaches transform. Add a non-JavaScript fixture and assert that its ID is absent from transform.mock.calls. This is a test-coverage improvement, not a demonstrated production failure.

Pass no importer to the filter for entry points.
When params.importer is absent, path.resolve(params.importer ?? '') produces the working directory. Passing that directory to importerId() can make an entry-point resolution match an importer filter even though the entry point has no importer. Pass undefined to the filter when params.importer is absent; retain the existing resolved path for the handler if its contract requires it. (app.unpkg.com)
