NEWLINE

NEWLINE provides a straightforward way to add a new line to the story, allowing the next sentence after this command to start on a fresh line. Please be careful to understand the difference between NEWLINE and NEWPARA (described below). In most cases, you might be looking for NEWPARA.

Syntax

NEWLINE

This command takes no parameters.

Difference compared with NEWPARA

NEWLINE can be thought of as placing the cursor on a new line, but without a gap between the previous and next blocks of text.

If text starting on a fresh line with a gap above it is desired, then you should use NEWPARA instead.

Caveats

NEWLINE does not take into account what preceded it. Therefore, if the previous command was NEWLINE and then you add another NEWLINE, the two new lines will add up to the same effect as a NEWPARA. Likewise if you had previously used a FORMAT command to add a new line to the end of a sentence, another new line will add up to an effect of NEWPARA. It is up to you to be aware of what was added to the story immediately before, and how that was formatted.
