This pull request implements sharded tests for improved test execution performance. The tests are now divided into 6 shards, allowing them to be run in parallel. This change will help reduce the overall test execution time.
This is an interim step building towards the fast / slow CI concept (in which the slow or full CI will run all tests sharded (i.e. including unit tests). I've commented out the implementation of sharded unit tests for now as it doesn't make sense to have that turned on until we have fast/slow CI.
