🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟠 Major | ⚡ Quick win
Do not make the prefix attribute scan possessive.
The first [^>]*+ consumes the complete attribute list before id="..." is evaluated. Because the quantifier is possessive, it cannot backtrack, so valid <div1 ... id="..."> tags do not match. buildFunctionSectionMap then records no opening sections, and resolveGroup falls back to "Sequence" for ordinary fn functions.
Use a scan that stops before the id attribute, or capture the complete opening tag and extract id separately. Keep the trailing attribute scan possessive.

Use possessive quantifiers (*+) in the fos:summary pattern to prevent the Java regex engine from storing backtracking positions on nested repetitions, eliminating the stack-overflow risk on large inputs. Relates to KaotoIO#199
…onSectionMap Replace lazy [^>]*? with an atomic-possessive prefix (?:[^>i]|i(?!d=))*+ followed by possessive [^>]*+ for the tail. The lookahead-guarded prefix prevents the possessive group from overshooting the id= attribute, while still eliminating the polynomial backtracking caused by the original lazy quantifier retrying at every character position. Fixes #199
Changes
Two SonarCloud reliability fixes in
XPathFunctionsGenerator.java, one commit each:java:S5998 — Stack overflow risk (L485)
The
buildSummaryMappattern used nested*repetitions, causing the Java regex engine to recurse on every iteration. On large XML inputs this can overflow the JVM stack.Fix: Applied possessive quantifiers (
*+) to all three repetitions in the pattern — the engine no longer stores backtracking positions, so stack depth stays constant regardless of input size.java:S8786 — Non-linear backtracking (L500)
The
buildFunctionSectionMapdiv-open pattern used a lazy[^>]*?before theid=literal, causing the engine to retry at every character position — O(n²) evaluation time on large inputs.Fix: Replaced lazy
[^>]*?with possessive[^>]*+. Since>is the tag delimiter, possessive matching is semantically equivalent and eliminates the polynomial backtracking.Summary by CodeRabbit
