feat(i18n): wrap all user-facing strings for translation - #927
Part of the console-wide i18n crawl (epic RHCLOUD-49430), landing-page leg of the sequence after #924 → #925 → #926. Note: the diff currently includes all previous commits — it will be rebased to exactly this PR's own commit (ad75aa4) when they merge.
Same template as the wave: lint rule at error, all findings cleared in the same diff, extraction template committed. Landing page copy now renders through react-intl with the console locale as the single source of truth.
Infrastructure
IntlMessagesProvider + useChromeLocale wired in AppEntry — the app previously never mounted an IntlProvider (react-intl was a dead dependency; it now carries the console locale from the chrome API with lazy per-locale catalogs: fr, ja, ko, zh-CN)
Storybook preview wraps stories in the provider — every interaction test now asserts rendered strings through it, making the SB suite the copy-drift guard
Wrap (46 lint findings in 12 files → 0, plus data-driven copy the jsx-only mode cannot see)
the 8 SimpleService card widgets: body/linkTitle copy hoisted to defineMessages (rhel keeps its lightspeed-rebrand conditional as two messages)
support-case widget: empty states, aria-labels, column headers and the filter's Severity/Status labels as descriptors. The severity/status enum values stay untranslated by design — they are API data contracts (filter matching and the label color mapper key on the exact API strings)
explore-capabilities: all six cards' titles/bodies (module-level data array — wrapped beyond the lint gate per the data-driven strings convention)
PdfEntry table headers
Lint config
i18next/no-literal-string at error, jsx-only mode, standard wave exclusion set; PF enums (color, breakpoints), url attributes and window.open call args excluded as structural.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
The home page and service widgets can display localized text based on your browser language, with English used when a translation isn’t available.
The browser tab title now uses the localized home page title.
Support case table labels, filters, and empty-state messages can be localized.
Bug Fixes
Storybook previews now include English message formatting, improving the accuracy of component previews.
Walkthrough
The change adds locale-aware message loading and translation checks, localizes landing-page and support-case widgets, and updates widget entry points to use direct component files.
The application reads the Chrome locale and loads supported message catalogs through IntlMessagesProvider. The document title uses a React Intl message. Storybook and the App test provide an English locale. The change adds catalog extraction and lint scripts, translation and React Hooks lint rules, and translation messages.
Federation paths now target direct widget component files. The service widgets and Explore Capabilities content use localized messages and locale providers. The former feature-directory widget files are removed, and the stories import the direct component modules.
An unusual locale value can break translation loading, and screen readers receive an inaccurate migration-card logo description. Both issues are narrow and have localized fixes; the PR is mergeable with owner awareness.

Reviewed as i18n preparation (catalog validation / Phrase onboarding comes in a separate PR). Locally on this head: eslint src, tsc --noEmit, lint:translations (no drift) and test:unit are clean; test:storybook passes 27/27.
The layout fits i18n-tooling's built-in formatjs-json adapter as is (descriptors in translations/messages.json, flat messages/<locale>.json targets), and the --out-file override works because FormatJS takes the last one. Inline notes cover what to fix before onboarding. One more that has no diff line here:
src/widgets/support-case/consts.tsxseverityTypes / statusTypes ("1 (Urgent)", "Waiting on Customer", …) still render as English in the filter options and chips. They probably need a label/value split before wrapping, since the values look like they are matched against API data.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Only messages.tourBody is used. The other 5 titles, 5 bodies and all alt texts in cardData are still English literals, so 11 of the 12 messages defined above never render. That leaves dead catalog entries for translators. The PR description says all six cards' titles and bodies are wrapped, so this looks unintended. The lint rule doesn't catch it because mode: 'jsx-only' skips object literals (see the eslint comment).
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Everything's in the amended commit, including the round-two items (the filter's delete handlers now compare against the formatted messages instead of English literals — chip deletion was broken in translated locales; columnNames wrapped in defineMessages so the five column headers reach the catalog). The one deliberate non-fix: locale normalization stays out — the mapping belongs in chrome, where useChromeLocale will own it (mapping table + typed key), and consumers will never negotiate locale strings. Every repo carries the same dumb placeholder today, which is what makes the eventual swap a drop-in import change. The severity/status label/value split is noted for the onboarding PR, agreed it needs the split before wrapping.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Only AppEntry provides an intl context. ./PdfEntry is loaded on its own by the PDF generator, and fec shares react-intl as { singleton: true, import: false }. So this now needs the generator host to supply both react-intl and an IntlProvider, or rendering fails. Has it been checked against the PDF generator (LOCAL_PDF)? The story passes only because .storybook/preview.tsx wraps every story in a provider. Options: wrap the entry in IntlMessagesProvider itself, or leave PdfEntry untranslated (it looks like a demo entry: "user data?!").
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
isExternal was dropped here compared with master. This is unrelated to i18n: the redhat.com trial link now renders through the router <Link> with the arrow icon instead of an <a> with the external-link icon. Intentional?
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Two things before onboarding:
@formatjs/cli isn't a devDependency, so npx downloads an unpinned version on every run (and catalog validation re-runs this script). Please add it to devDependencies.
The glob picks up stories and tests. Extraction already warns on IntlMessagesProvider.stories.tsx ("id must be a string literal"). Add --ignore '**/*.stories.*' --ignore '**/*.test.*'.
Also, no message has a description. Short strings like "Edge", "Images", "Status", "ID" and "Services" need context for translators before the first Phrase submit.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Not wired into verify or the Konflux PR pipeline, so drift isn't enforced yet. That's fine if the onboarding PR replaces it with translations:validate; mentioning it so the "copy-drift guard" isn't assumed to be live.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
jsx-only skips data-driven strings (the cardData array in explore-capabilities passed lint unwrapped). placeholder in the attribute exclude list below is user-visible text too. So "46 findings → 0" doesn't cover all the copy. Consider dropping placeholder from the excludes and covering data arrays with the pseudo-locale story check suggested in .storybook/preview.tsx.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
messageCatalogs does an exact key lookup, so fr-FR, zh-cn or zh_CN coming from chrome would silently fall back to English. Worth normalizing (or using @formatjs/intl-localematcher) and adding a test once the value chrome exposes (https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHCLOUD-52203) is known.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Because every story runs in en, where defaultMessage is the old literal, the widget interaction tests pass whether or not a string is wrapped. The explore-capabilities gap passed all 27 tests. To make this a real copy-drift guard, run the widget stories under a pseudo-locale catalog (e.g. generated [!! … !!] from translations/messages.json) and assert no plain English remains. The global wrapper also hides missing-provider problems like PdfEntry's.
onDelete and onDeleteGroup compare the category name to English literals.
The category name now comes from intl.formatMessage(messages.severity). In a translated locale, ToolbarFilter passes the translated string to deleteLabel and deleteLabelGroup. The comparisons type === 'Severity' and type === 'Status' then fail. Deleting a filter chip or a chip group does nothing in French, Japanese, Korean and Chinese.
Compare against the formatted messages instead.
🐛 Proposed fix
- severity: type === 'Severity' ? filterTypes.severity : filters.severity,- status: type === 'Status' ? filterTypes.status : filters.status,+ severity: type === intl.formatMessage(messages.severity) ? filterTypes.severity : filters.severity,+ status: type === intl.formatMessage(messages.status) ? filterTypes.status : filters.status,
Apply the same change in onDeleteGroup. Alternatively, pass categoryName={{ key: 'severity', name: ... }} and compare on the key.

The resolve.alias regex key will not work as intended.
Vite treats a plain-object alias key as a literal string. It does not treat the key as a regex. The ^(\.{1,2}/.*)\.js$ key will never match an import. The .js-extension stripping is therefore inactive. Unit tests pass today, so this is not a current break. Use the array form with a RegExpfind value if you need this behavior. Otherwise, remove the dead alias.

useChromeLocale hardcodes ['fr', 'ja', 'ko', 'zh-CN']. messageCatalogs defines the same keys. Adding a locale in one place will not update the other. The new locale then silently falls back to English. Use Object.keys(messageCatalogs) instead.
Add import { messageCatalogs } from './messageCatalogs'; at the top of the file.

categoryName now returns the localized string. ToolbarFilter passes that string to deleteLabel and deleteLabelGroup. onDelete and onDeleteGroup compare it with the English literals 'Severity' and 'Status'. This side effect runs on every render of App. It is idempotent, so the impact is low. Move it into a useEffect keyed on the localized title. The title then updates once per locale change, not once per render.

Stale messages can be paired with a new locale during a switch.
On a locale change, the effect clears the old messages only after the new catalog loads or fails. Until then, loadedLocale and messages stay at the old values, so there is no mismatch. For an unknown locale, setLoadedLocale(locale) runs with a locale that IntlProvider may not support. Intl falls back safely, so the impact is low. Normalize the locale or set loadedLocale to en in that branch.

The resolve.alias regex key does not work as a pattern.
Vite treats a plain-object alias key as a literal string. It does not treat it as a regex. This alias never matches. Use an array form with a RegExpfind, or remove the alias.

Re-checked at 8f9d607. The earlier notes on explore-capabilities, PdfEntry, openshift-ai isExternal, the document title, @formatjs/cli, the extract ignores and placeholder are all addressed, thanks.
Two new things: the inline note below, and the description is out of date in two places:
It lists "PdfEntry table headers" as wrapped, but PdfEntry is now deliberately untranslated (and eslint-ignored).
It says 40 messages extracted; translations/messages.json has 43.
Still open from before, no thread for it: severityTypes / statusTypes labels still render in English. Feel free to resolve at will or fix ;)

columnNames is a plain object rather than defineMessages, and it's only consumed as intl.formatMessage(columnNames.caseId) etc. FormatJS extracts only literal descriptors (defineMessages, formatMessage({...}), <FormattedMessage>), so these 5 headers never reach translations/messages.json (no supportCase.column.* keys there) and won't be sent to translators. lint:translations stays green because it can't see them either. Wrapping the object in defineMessages fixes it; 4 of the 5 also need a description ("Status", "Severity" are ambiguous without one). Same as CodeRabbit's note.

Make extraction errors fail translation validation.
If two source messages use one ID with different text, FormatJS warns and continues without --throws. If the existing message remains in the generated catalog, git diff --exit-code also passes. Add --throws to extract:messages so lint:translations rejects the conflicting ID. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

With filters
You can add filters to a toolbar to let users filter the content that a toolbar manages. When a toolbar is filtered, it will expand in height to make space for a row of filter labels and a "Clear all filters" button. Upon clearing the applied filters, the toolbar will return to its default height.
The `<ToolbarFilter>` component expects applied filters and a delete label handler to be passed in as properties. Pass in a `deleteLabelGroup` property to close the entire label group. Once close, the rendering of labels will be handled responsively by the toolbar.

# PatternFly React - Core
This project provides the React core components for the PatternFly project.
Community: PatternFly website | Slack | Medium | Mailing list
### Setup
Before you begin, check out this overview of PatternFly to get familiar with the basic elements of the design system. These instructions also assume that an existing React project is set up. For more information on how to do this, please see our main README.
#### Install the @patternfly/react-core NPM package
* Using npm, run the following command to install:
`npm install @patternfly/react-core --save
`
OR
* Using yarn, run the following command to install:
`yarn add @patternfly/react-core
`
#### Project configuration
Each PatternFly component already contains the CSS related to the component. In order to have consistent styles throughout the application, PatternFly Base CSS should be used in the project, or some components may diverge in appearance. This import statement should be placed before your main application component is imported.
import '@patternfly/react-core/dist/styles/base.css';
#### Example component usage
import { Button } from '@patternfly/react-core';
export default <Button variant="primary">Button</B u t t o n>;
All component documentation is available on PatternFly.org.
### Contribution guidelines
All React contributors must first be PatternFly community contributors. If you are already a PatternFly community contributor, check out the React contribution guidelines to make React contributions.

Keep filter identity separate from translated labels.
If a locale gives Severity and Status the same categoryName, deleting either group satisfies both comparisons in onDeleteGroup and clears both filter arrays. Current severity and status chip values are disjoint, so chip deletion does not currently remove a value from the other array.
ToolbarFilter has no separate stable identity prop. Bind each callback to its filter key, and keep the two localized categoryName values distinct in every catalog.

Update the severity and status filter callbacks in the component so each
deleteLabel and deleteLabelGroup handler passes its own stable filter key to
onDelete and onDeleteGroup, rather than relying on the translated categoryName
argument. Keep the localized labels for display.

keep catalog setup in each story’s beforeEach.

<title>Mocking modules | Storybook docs</title>
<location>https://storybook.js.org/docs/writing-stories/mocking-data-and-modules/mocking-modules</location>
<excerpt>citeturn0search0 [wordlim: 200] Crawled: today; * Include the file extension (e.g., `.ts` or `.js`). ... For example, if you want to spy on the `getUserFromSession` function and the `uuidv4` function from the `uuid` package, you can call the `sb.mock` utility function in your `.storybook/preview.*` file: ... If you are currently using `'node'`, that is intended for projects using a Node.js version older than v10. ... If your project is unable to use automocking or subpath imports, you can configure your Storybook builder to alias the module to the mock file.
###
Registering modules to mock
When automocking, you use the `sb.mock` utility function to register modules you want to mock. There are three ways to register modules: as spy-only, fully automocked, or with a mock file. Each method has its use cases and benefits.
There are some key details to keep in mind when using the `sb.mock` utility:
* You can register both local modules (e.g., `../lib/session.ts`) and packages in `node_modules` (e.g., `uuid`).
* You can only register mocked modules in your project-level configuration: `.storybook/preview.*`. This ensures consistent and performant mocking across all stories in your project. You can modify the behavior of these modules in your stories, but you cannot register them directly in the story files.
* When registering a mock for a local module, the path must:
* Not use an alias or subpath import (e.g., `@/lib/session.ts` or `#lib/session`).
* Be relative to the `.storybook/preview.*` file.
* Include the file extension (e.g., `.ts` or `.js`).
* If you are using Typescript, you can wrap the module path in `import()` to ensure the module is correctly resolved and typed. For example, `sb.mock(import('../lib/session.ts'))`.
* If you are using the Webpack builder, you can only automock `node_module` packages that have ESModules (ESM) entry points. If a module has both CommonJS (CJS) and ESM entry points, Webpack doesn't correctly resolve the ESM entry and it cannot be mocked. Webpack users can still mock CJS `node_module` packages by providing a mock file.
Spy-only
For most cases, you should register a mocked module as spy-only, by setting the `spy` option to `true`. This leaves the original module's functionality intact, while still allowing you to modify the behavior if needed and make assertions in your tests.
For example, if you want to spy on the `getUserFromSession` function and the `uuidv4` function from the `uuid` package, you can call the `sb.mock` utility function in your `.storybook/preview.*` file:
[Button: CSF 3][Button: CSF Next 🧪]
.storybook/preview.ts|tsx
Typescript
`// Replace your-framework with the framework you are using (e.g., react-vite, nextjs, vue3-vite, sveltekit)
import type { Preview } from '@storybook/your-framework';
import { sb } from 'storybook/test';
// 👇 Automatically spies on all exports from the `lib/session` local module
sb.mock(import('../lib/session.ts'), { spy: true });
// 👇 Automatically spies on all exports from the `uuid` package in `node_modules`
sb.mock(import('uuid'), { spy: true });
const preview: Preview = {
// ...
};
export default preview;`
If you need to mock an external module that has a deeper import path (e.g. `lodash-es/add`), register the mock with that path.
You can then control the behavior of these modules and make assertions about them in your stories, such as checking if a function was called or what arguments it was called with.
Fully automocked modules
For cases where you need to prevent the original module's functionality from executing, set the `spy` option to `false` (or omit it, because that is the default value). This will automatically replace all exports from the module with Vitest mock functions, allowing you to control their behavior and make assertions while being certain th…[truncated]</excerpt>

####
Known limitations
Because of the way stories are currently indexed in Storybook, loading stories on demand has a couple of minor limitations at the moment:
* CSF formats from version 1 to version 3 are supported.
* Custom `storySort` functions are allowed based on a restricted API.
Configure story rendering
To control the way stories are rendered and add global decorators and parameters, create a `.storybook/preview.js` file. This is loaded in the Canvas UI, the “preview” iframe that renders your components in isolation. Use `preview.js` for global code (such as CSS imports or JavaScript mocks) that applies to all stories.
The `preview.js` file can be an ES module and export the following keys:
* `decorators` - an array of global decorators
* `parameters` - an object of global parameters
* `globalTypes` - definition of globalTypes
If you’re looking to change how to order your stories, read about sorting stories.
##
Configure Storybook’s UI
To control the behavior of Storybook’s UI (the “manager”), you can create a `.storybook/manager.js` file.
This file does not have a specific API but is the place to set UI options and to configure Storybook’s theme.</excerpt>

Storybook 10.6.3 only registers sb.mock calls from .storybook/preview.*. Local module paths must be relative to that file and include the extension. Move the registration and keep the catalog setup in each story’s beforeEach.

Review comment at @src/i18n/IntlMessagesProvider.stories.tsx at line 12:
Move the sb.mock registration out of IntlMessagesProvider stories and into the
Storybook preview module, using a path relative to preview with the .ts
extension; remove the now-unused sb import and mock call from the stories, and
keep catalog setup in each story’s beforeEach.

Provide an IntlProvider for direct SupportCaseWidget mounts.
The ./SupportCaseWidget federated exposure uses the bare default export of src/widgets/support-case/index.tsx. That component calls useIntl() at line 76. Without a surrounding IntlProvider, useIntl() throws. The only provider added in this change wraps App under ./RootApp. A host that mounts ./SupportCaseWidget directly can therefore fail at render.
Wrap the widget's exposed entry with IntlMessagesProvider, using the locale from useChromeLocale as AppEntry.tsx does. Expose that wrapper in fec.config.js in place of the bare component. Confirm how the external hosts mount this export before changing the exposure.

Review comment at @src/widgets/support-case/index.tsx at line 76:
The directly exposed SupportCaseWidget calls useIntl without a provider. Add an
entry wrapper using IntlMessagesProvider and the locale from useChromeLocale,
then update the ./SupportCaseWidget exposure in fec.config.js to export that
wrapper instead of the bare component.

Restrict catalog lookup to owned locale keys.
If locale is "toString", this lookup returns the inherited Object.prototype.toString function. The truthy check passes, but loader().then(...) throws instead of using the unsupported-locale fallback. Check for an own property before calling the loader. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Describe the migration card’s actual logo.
The migration card uses logo_hat-only.svg, but its new alt message says “Red Hat Enterprise Linux logo.” Screen readers receive the wrong image description. Use “Red Hat logo,” as the tour card does for the same image. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Part of the console-wide i18n crawl (epic RHCLOUD-49430). Same template
as the other wave PRs: lint rule at error, all findings cleared in the
same diff, extraction template committed.
1194 -> 0 findings, 683 messages extracted.
Also: react-hooks plugin installed and exhaustive-deps upgraded to
error. The plugin was never loaded in this repo, so hook dependency
checking was not running. 44 pre-existing violations suppressed with
documented eslint-disable comments.
Federation: each widget that uses useIntl is exported with a named
export (the bare component, for tests and stories) and a default
export (the provider-wrapped entry using IntlMessagesProvider and
useChromeLocale, for federation consumers that don't provide an
IntlProvider). Widgets are flat files in src/widgets/ (no subfolder
indirection). RecentlyVisited and SimpleServiceWidget don't use useIntl
and have no provider wrapper. fec.config.js exposes point to the flat
files.

Part of the console-wide i18n crawl (epic RHCLOUD-49430), landing-page leg of the sequence after #924 → #925 → #926. Note: the diff currently includes all previous commits — it will be rebased to exactly this PR's own commit (
