"Coding for beginners using Scratch" book

Numbers below correspond to page numbers from the book.

  • 6 - Scratchy. Can you make scratchy move? Can you make them look like they're walking (by changing costume)? Can you make them make a meow sound?

  • 8 - Cat and mouse. Can you make the nouse move by itself? And the cat to chase it?

  • 12 - Dancing Sprites. Can you make the sprites dance (using costumes for animation)? Can you add some music? Can you add a different backdrop?

  • 14 - Build a band. Can you create a beat just using code? And can you add some buttons to control the speed of the beat? And add some extra sounds for different band members (maybe trigger sounds on click)?

  • 18 - Ghost story. Can you create a scary animation with a ghost? Can you make the ghost disappear for a random amount of time? And then reappear in a random place in a scary way, saying "boo!"?

  • 22 - Drawing. Can you make a drawing game? Can you make a shapes and patterns appear? And rotate? And change colour? And have sliders to control how many sides/degrees of rotation?

  • 26 - Animated conversation. Can you create a story with two characters having a conversation? And can you coordinate things using "messages"?

  • 36 - Guess the number. Can you create a game where the computer picks a random number, and you have to guess the number? If the guess is wrong, the computer can tell the user whether the number is higher or lower.

  • 40 - Bat and ball. Can you make a game with bats and ball? (ie.. pong, ping pong, tennis). Can you make the ball speed up on each hit?

  • 44 - Pattern maker. Can you make make cool patterns by moving lots of points around, and changing the colours?

  • 46 - Virtual pet. Can create a game where you have to feed the pet?

  • 54 - Car racing. Can you create a game where a car moves around a track? Can you make the car move slower when it is off the track? And can you sense when the car has reached the finish line? And can you time how long it took to reach the finish? And can you keep a list of high scores?

  • 60 - Space adventure. Can you create a game where a spaceship moves through space? Can you make it have to avoid asteroids and planets? Can you add some aliens?

  • 66 - Jumping. Can you create a game with platforms, where the character has to jump to get to door at the end?

  • 76 - Pop the balloon. Can you create a game where ballons rise up, and user has to click as many pink ones as possible in some amount of time? Can you keep track of the score? Can you make it so clicking non-pink balloons deduct from the score? Can you keep a list of high scores?
