About

Motivation

In a recently published statistic from WHO, it is estimated that by 2050, 1 in every 10 people will have disabling hearing loss. Also, a survey conducted by SignHealth.org during the coronavirus epidemic revealed that 89% of respondents were worried about communication with hospital staff and 62% struggled to communicate with mask wearers in public due to the inability to read lips or facial expressions.

It is clear that there is a growing need for individuals to learn sign language and Signapse is here to help!

What is Signapse?

Signapse is an open source software tool for helping everyday people learn sign language for free. Signapse includes a deep learning model to help recognise and identify hand signs in a live camera feed providing the user with real-time feedback. Users are able to complete learning challenges and view their live signing in our GUI.

Signapse is a cross-platform application and is currently available Debian-like Linux distros; we officially support Ubuntu and Raspbian.
