Indeed the changelog for the SRU mentions that:

  * d/p/0001-component-Grab-tmpdir-from-policy.patch:
    - Fix a regression where the sos was being created in /var/tmp instead of
      /tmp. The hard-coded value is now updated to use the policy which for
      debian defaults to /tmp.

/etc/sos/sos.conf does not set tmp-dir any more (that patch was dropped), so the new call to self.policy.get_tmp_dir(None) is now an internal per-distro hardcoding. We somehow need to follow suit in cockpit.

We previously changed this in cockpit-project/cockpit@8976d45
