3. Video tutorials

The Toolkit for Open and Sustainable City Planning and Analysis has a Vimeo page that contains a collection of video tutorials to guide you, step-by-step, through the process of using, deploying, configuring and managing the system.

It is divided into four sections. Other than the introductory video, the three remaining sections are based on the type of end-user: Administrators, Developers and Users. Following is the entire list of videos on the page along with their descriptions:

   

Introduction

1. Overview: Gives an introduction to the system architecture of the Open City Toolkit. It also provides an overview of the video tutorial series.

   

For Administrators

1. Deployment: Explains how to set up the system on a server and how to configure the instance.
2. Data Preparation: Explains how to review layer properties and attributes, how to check the projection system, and how to convert data.
3. Thematic Maps: Explains how to overlay relevant layers to create thematic maps and how to produce static maps with a legend.
4. GeoServer Data Publishing : Explains how to upload geopackages into Geoserver and set the symbology.
5. GeoServer Configure TOSCA: Explains how to configure the source code and build the Open City Toolkit.
6. GRASS GIS Basics: Gives a general introduction to GRASS GIS, which is the 'engine' of the Open City Toolkit.

   

For Developers

1. GRASS GIS Commandline: Explains how to start GRASS, how to use GRASS command line, accessing Linux commands through GRASS command line and learning menus as commands.
2. GRASS GIS Data Structure: Explains GRASS data structure, locations, mapsets, accessing data, import/export data.
3. GRASS GIS Scripting: Explains how to use grass script to do spatial analysis for vector map (v.extract). The content includes an explanation on how to set resolution and set region.
4. GRASS GIS Optimization: Explains how to set variables through input parameters in a sh script and call this process from another grass script.

   

For Users

1. Introduction User Interface: Helps you to familiarise yourself with the Open City Toolkit user interface. Learn which settings are relevant and what their effect will be on the use of the tool.
2. Basemap: Explains how to take the first steps of adding a basemap before using the modules.
3. Calculate Time Map Module: Explains how to use the Calculate Time Map module, the different analyses you can conduct with it and which parameters you can change.
