Translation Conventions

On this page we will write down all the conventions that we took for the translation of this book.

I found in the prologue of the book an issue worth thinking and deciding. It is related to the gender of the turtle for the author and the fact that subjects of sentences and adjectives when translated into Spanish change their gender. The noun turtle in Spanish is feminine and as the author refers to the turtle as a masculine noun, I have decided to keep the turtle as male in order not to cause discrepancies with the author's wish to make his friend a male friend. Consecuently, the adjectives in Spanish will also follow this convention.

Another thing I have decided to unify criteria is about the word puzzle. Apparently, the word does no need much translation, since its meaning is very well understood in English and Spanish as what it means. Therefore, I will refer to the "Puzzles" as puzzles, as I believe this will not cause misunderstandings among the readers of the book.

I have finally decided to translate "puzzle" as "figura", since it sounded somewhat artificial otherwise.

In some cases, there are names and surnames in the riddles, and they represent a challenge as to whether to translate them or not. I have decided to make the choice to translate them when they assist the riddle in assonance or rhythm somehow.
