  • Experimental days

    • 07/09/15 day 1, 1 blocks of 20 min, first block, Go only trials, no licking necessary. 2nd block, 40 min, only Go trials, lick necessary.

    • 07/10/15 day 2 Go only trials with lick necessary. 2 blocks of 30 min. We noticed that actually the mouse's licks were not detected. Looking back at the data from yesterday (day 1 for the mouse), it seems no licks were recorded past 500 sec. The temporary solution was to add water to the head bar/ cannula region to improve electric current conductivity. We assume that this mouse didn't learn anything, so we start from scratch with 1 block 20 min Go trials only, no lick necessary.2nd block was a 40 min session, go only, lick necessary

    • 07/11/15 2 30 min blocks, Go only, lick necessary. Tested the licometer at the beginning of the session, looks good. I used soap to improve conductivity for this mouse. ~25 min in the first block, the lickometer stopped working. When I tried to deliver the rewards by hand by touching the head bar and reward tube, it didn't work. Stopped the block, added more water, tested the lickometer again. The mouse earned 20 rewards (confirmed by hearing the rewards valve), no licks recorded. Added more soap, more water. tested the lickometer again. 10 rewards, none detected. Tested the lickometer again, manually making contact. No licks recorded. At this point, I restarted matlab. Another test, this time, manually making contact. Heard the reward valve, no licks detected. Put the mouse back in his cage.

    • 07/17/15 blocks 20 min, go +no go, false alarms punished by air puff and 8 sec TO. check lick detector in between blocks. block 1 is delay 0s. Block 2 is delay 0.5. Block 3 is delay 0.5. It is very good at holding its lick.

    • 07/18/15 blocks 20 min, go +no go, false alarms punished by air puff and 8 sec TO delay 0.5s. block 1 no air puff in between. block 2 and 3 add air puff in between. Block 1: Hits 96 % FA 31 %
      Block 2: Hits 93 % FA XX %
      Block 3: Hits % FA % We lost the data because of mismanipulation but mouse did well and very similar behavior as block 2.

    • 07/19/2015 tested the lick detector (ok). block 1, 30 min go +no go, no go punished by air puff and 8 sec TO. reward delay 0.5 sec, random lick punished with air puff. tested lick detector. Block 2, same parameters. Mouse lost interest in the task.

    • 07/20/2015 I had some troubles with lick detector at the beginning. blocks, 20 min go +no go, no go punished by air puff and 8 sec TO. reward delay 0.5 sec, random lick punished with air puff. Block 1: Hits 100 % FA 9 %

      Block 2: Hits 0 % FA 0 % losing interest

    • 07/21/2015 very difficult to get the lick detector to wprk for this mouse, I had to add water 4 times. 2 30 min blocks, go +no go, no go punished by air puff and 8 sec TO. reward delay 0.5 sec, random lick punished with air puff, reward duration : 0.06
      Block 1: Hits 22% FA 21%
      Block 2: Interrupted after 1000s of nothing. Gave few water drops and restarted Block 3: Hits 72% FA 16%

    • 07/22/2015 the lick detector work when the drop is on the center of the implant. Wrong contact seem to be there. reward delay 0.5 sec, random lick punished with air puff, reward duration : 0.06 . Block 1 as the day before with air puff for random lick. Block 2 with time out for random air puff. Block 1: Hits 95 % FA 4 % 427 air puffs 139 total trials
      Block 2: Hits 15 % FA 5 % screen was well positioned Block 3: Hits 14 % FA 2 % screen was not positioned properly, slightly tilted away. Block 4: screen positioned correctly. Hits 17 % FA 14 %

Block 3, increase the punishment for random lick to 3 sec TO + air puff. mouse stopped responding during block 3, it seems to avoid punishment. restarted block 3, giving the mouse some free rewards. mouse responds "tries out" on a few trials only but doesn't look asleep.
