Dan Abend
Dan Abend is a manager of software development for the Level One division of RealPage, focused on providing solutions to the multi-family housing industry.
Dan has over a quarter of a century of software development under his belt. For the past ten years, he has been a dedicated .NET software developer specializing in VB.NET. As a consummate developer, he's been known to make forays into PHP (for Wordpress development), Ruby (cause it has nice syntax), and Python (because it's there). His specialty is debugging complex systems through a combination of asking the right questions, eliminating the obvious, and making intelligent Google queries.
When Dan became involved with the first RESTfest, he knew very little about RESTful applications. He was mostly interested in helping a local software developer gathering take root in Greenville. He was the one carrying pizzas and trying to make sure everyone had enough to eat and dink.
When he's not basking in the warm LED backlit glow, you'll find him chasing one of his children or more typically, trying to hid somewhere he doesn't really fit, while they inevitably decided counting to 100 is proper, and justified, for hide-and-seek. Dan enjoys movies, geek culture, non-sport trading cards, and home brewing but doesn't have as much time for those as he once did.
To keep his skills relevant, Dan is most assuredly working on a side project or three that he'll happily talk about.
If you are interested in non-sport trading cards, his twitter feed is the place to be @legendlore.
Fan of the intellectual drama Bones, starring David Boreanaz (Angel, Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Emily Deschanel) should check out I Dig Bones TV. Season 8 starts right after RESTfest.
Interested in geek culture and saving a few bucks? Geek Deal HQ is your answer for deals on movies, video games, LEGO, and an assortment of items to tug at the hearstring of fanboys (and fangirls) - Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who, Tolkein, Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead. Any given day of the week, He'll fill your twitter stream with geek birthdays, $10 daily T-Shirts, fury-toed Halfling Slippers, movie trailers and entertaining news.
He's currently working on a Twitter app to help manage all this marvelous social media interaction while leaving time for sleep. The Twitter API can be both exhilaration and frustrating.
If you'd like to hear about the more mundane things in his life, you can find Dan on Twitter or network with him on Linked In.
