I oversee product development at APIphany, a startup company located in Washington D.C. APIphany offers a cloud-based Web API management solution that enables customers to move from having a web service to having a robust and scalable API product quickly and risk-free.

I've worked in the industry for over 20 years as a developer and architect. Last ten years I spent at Microsoft in the Developer and Platform Evangelism group. Prior to Microsoft, I developed software solutions in a number of domains, including terminal guidance systems, real-time image processing and recognition, document imaging, securities governance, supply chain management, insurance, and fixed asset accounting. Throughout my career, I worked on a diverse array of hardware ranging from such exotic things as Inmos Transputers and specialized vector processors to VAXes, and of course personal computers, using a variety of programming languages and frameworks.

I was born and grew up in Moscow and moved to the United States in 1993.

In addition to Web, REST, and APIs I love food, books (especially history), listening to tech podcasts, travel, and hiking.

Title If OData is the solution, what is the problem?
Level
Abstract The Open Data Protocol (OData) builds on HTTP, AtomPub, and JSON and is used to expose and access data on the web in a RESTful way. Initially designed and implemented by Microsoft, it was recently submitted to the OASIS. In the course of five minutes I will attempt to provide a brief introduction to OData and share a few of my thoughts about it.
