Outline

We will look at tools for easily and freely sharing 3D content online, including e.g. SketchFab and Kubity. These allow interactive deployment of 3D content, so that users can explore in live 3D and view models stereoscopically in Google Cardboard. These are relatively lightweight and ow cost ‘bring your own device’ solutions to delivering 3D content, which are compatible with a wide variety of devices and browsers. There are various ways of generating the 3D content, including SketchUp, free and easily learned digital modelling software.

Essay title

What are the opportunities and challenges for using 3D content as a tool for public engagement with cultural heritage?

Exercise

Following the tutorial, create a virtual environment in Sketchfab. You can use the 3D model you developed in the previous classes or any other model downloaded from a repository. Try different settings and check the VR navigation on a mobile phone.
