feat(logs): GET /api/logs/search, semantic search shared with Warp - #8926
Adds GET /api/logs/search, which finds logged conversations by meaning. It runs the same search as Warp's semantic_search_logs tool, so API clients and the management MCP can use it too. Before this, /api/logs/search fell through to /api/logs/{id} and returned 404.
Changes
Added the GET /api/logs/search route.
Each repeated query parameter is one phrasing (up to 5, each up to 2000 characters). A log scores by its best match across them.
limit accepts 1–25. The default and cap come from Warp's configured semantic search limit.
The route accepts the standard log filters: time range, providers, models, status, virtual keys, users, teams, customers, business units, apps, latency, cost and content_search.
The response returns compact rows with a similarity score, a content preview and a dashboard link. It also returns returned and the threshold a row had to reach.
Added Service.SearchLogs in framework/warp, built on SemanticSearcher.SearchVisible.
It uses the caller's query scope and identity from the context. The caller's visibility narrows the vector prefilters, and every match is reloaded through the log store.
Warp's own default of narrowing an unscoped question to the asker's traffic does not apply on the API.
Search by meaning now refuses, with a 400 that names them, any filter it cannot apply (session_id, objects, error_types, metadata_filters and others). Previously these were dropped silently, which widened results. A dropped session_id returned other sessions' conversations.
This also applies to Warp's semantic_search_logs tool.
Nothing is embedded before the refusal.
A new test classifies every SearchFilters field as applied or refused, so a new field fails until it is placed on one side.
Added ErrInvalidSearchQuery, which the handler maps to 400.
Bad query sets (none, too long, too many) are refused before any embedding is paid for.
A bad request returns 400 even when search is unavailable.
The handler returns 503 when Warp is disabled, has no embedding model, or its log index is not filled. It returns 500 for other failures. A one-minute timeout bounds each search, and hidden request types apply as on every other log read.
WarpHandler.SearchLogs gates the route on the Warp feature flag, and server.go wires it into the logging handler.
Added OpenAPI docs: the path, the LogSearchResult and LogSearchRow schemas, and the required Logs:View permission.
Added unit tests for the service, the filter refusals and the handler.
Added an e2e Postman folder (266):
Three deterministic 400 checks: no query, more than 5 phrasings, and an unsupported session_id filter.
A live check that seeds a conversation, waits for its log row, and searches by two phrasings until live indexing has embedded it.
The folder restores the Warp feature flag and config afterward.

semantic_search_logs now returns an error naming any filter it cannot apply, where it used to ignore it. Callers that relied on those filters being ignored will see the error.

Security considerations
Callers need the Logs:View permission.
The caller's visibility narrows which candidates the index is queried for, and every match is reloaded through the log store. A restricted caller sees only logs they may see.
Unsupported filters are refused rather than dropped. This closes a case where an ignored session_id returned other sessions' conversations.
Hidden request types are applied as on other log reads.

Added GET /api/logs/search for semantic search across logged conversations using up to five query phrasings. Results include similarity scores and content previews, with options to limit results and apply supported filters.
Searches require log-view permission. Invalid queries and unsupported filters are rejected; search is unavailable when the required service or index is not ready.
Documentation
Documented the search endpoint, accepted parameters, permissions, response fields, and error cases.
The pull request adds semantic log search to the Warp service and exposes it through GET /api/logs/search. It adds query and filter validation, HTTP response handling, API documentation, and unit and end-to-end coverage.

The new search endpoint documents a 400 for unsupported filters, but some filters are ignored and return 200 with wider results. The new filter-classification test would also fail on FallbackHopsOnly, and the e2e validation cases run before Warp is enabled. Fix these before merging.

The three invalid-search requests run before the folder reads and enables the Warp feature flag. When Warp is disabled, WarpHandler.SearchLogs returns warp.ErrUnavailable before query validation. LoggingHandler.searchLogs maps that error to 503, so these cases can fail their 400 expectations. Move the flag snapshot and enable setup before these cases, and retain the cleanup that restores the original flag state.

Search drops supplied filters
searchLogs only checks filters that survive parseHistogramFilters. That parser never reads roots_only or group_sessions, and it silently drops malformed times and numbers. On a configured deployment, ?query=refunds&roots_only=true searches child requests too, while &max_cost=abc runs without a cost bound. Callers get wider results instead of the promised refusal.
Validate supplied parameters before searching, including filters this parser does not read.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Rejected requests still run searches
For topic_ids=,, parseHistogramFilters writes a 400 and returns nil, but this call continues. Service.SearchLogs turns nil into empty filters and runs the search, including paid embeddings. On success, SendJSON replaces the error body with search results while leaving the status at 400.
Store the parsed filters and return immediately when they are nil.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Bad requests return unavailable
With the Warp feature flag off, this return happens before query validation. A request with no query, or six phrasings, gets 503 instead of the promised 400. Folder 266 checks those requests before enabling the flag, so its checks fail when Warp starts disabled. Service.SearchLogs also skips unsupported-filter checks when its searcher is absent.
Check queries and filters before either availability check, without starting embeddings.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Handler cost is not measured
The new searchLogs request path has no benchmark or measured cost in the PR description. The repository guide requires request-path changes to include a Benchmark* in the existing test file, measurements with -benchmem, and reported time and allocations.
Add a benchmark with fake search dependencies and record the results, or explain why this path cannot be measured. This repository requirement must be satisfied before merging.

Reject roots_only and group_sessions on /api/logs/search.
The search handler builds its filters with parseHistogramFilters, which does not read roots_only or group_sessions. Those parameters are parsed only in getLogs. The service's unsupportedSemanticFilters checks the RootsOnly and GroupSessions fields, but those fields are never set on this path, so the check never fires. A request such as GET /api/logs/search?query=refund&roots_only=true can return HTTP 200 with uncollapsed rows.
Parse both parameters in the search handler and set RootsOnly and GroupSessions on the filters it passes to SearchLogs. unsupportedSemanticFilters then returns the 400 that the OpenAPI description promises. Keep the description at docs/openapi/paths/management/logging.yaml:575-576 unchanged.

Classify FallbackHopsOnly as unsupported.
TestWarpSemanticFiltersClassifyEveryField sets FallbackHopsOnly to true, but unsupportedSemanticFilters does not report it. The test therefore sees refused=false and applied=false and reports an error. SearchVisible also allows the filter through without rejecting it.

Reject malformed values of supported filters instead of ignoring them.
parseHistogramFilters drops values that fail to parse. This applies to start_time, end_time, min_latency, max_latency, min_cost and max_cost. For example, start_time=yesterday is ignored. The search then returns a wider result with no signal to the client.
This is the same silent widening that the PR rejects for unsupported filters. Validate these parameters in searchLogs before the search. Return 400 when a non-empty value does not parse. Do not change the shared parser, because other routes depend on its behavior.
