Reading

Reading

  • to read paper uses portrait format
  • uses landscape format for text not arranged in columns
  • would like to have the option (!) to see the line highlighted which is currently read

Highlighting

  • prefers a stylus more than touch input for highlighting

  • marks first word of the text to be highlighted -> drags stylus to the last word

  • if he has to use touch input: draws a circle or a line above the text line which should be highlighted

  • OR: would use thumb to mark the first line and drag index finger to the last line which should be highlighted (similar to pinch gesture) [picture: participant4 (3)]

  • stylus is more accurate than touch input: would use stylus at working place and touch input while he is "outside"

Underlining

  • makes no difference between underlining and highlighting
  • marks lines in the same way as highlighting

Making Comments

  • after highlighting a text part -> comment function pops up

  • comment box appears outside of current paragraph

  • comment box is moveable

  • uses two fingers to resize comment box

  • writes notes with stylus (if handwriting is recognizable)

  • rotates device by 90 to use keyboard (mentioned that he doesn't like the keyboard of a resistive touch screen)

Erasing

  • clicks on annotations -> menu pops up -> delete function appears
  • if he has a stylus -> use stylus as eraser for highlighting

Searching

  • clicks on search button -> types word -> search process starts
  • as soon as display is located on corresponding page -> search result is highlighted
  • if there is more than one result on the same page -> device tells him that he views the n-Th search result at this page (no halo)
  • if search result doesn't appear on current located page -> icon shows page of next search result

Finding annotated content

  • clicks on button to see history of annotations -> annotations + page number sorted by location (not chronological)
  • annotation appears as soon as device is located on corresponding page [picture: participant4 (6)]
  • doesn't want halo technique

Related Content

  • clicks on reference -> shows information of the reference (title, author, year) at the bottom of the display + link to Google
  • clicks on image -> shows similar images (images with similar keywords) or detailed information next to the selected image
  • possibility of interactive pictures (e.g. click on the image to show day and night view of an image)
  • click on image -> starts video below the image [picture: participant4 (7)]

Navigation

  • clicks on button to open table of content or index

Flipping

  • would prefer a button to switch views

Stacking

  • to expand viewing space [picture: participant4 (8)-(9)]
  • to fuse content of two displays
  • to copy content from one device to another one

Tilting

  • to slide through content (instead of using a scroll bar)

Lifting

  • for zooming ( but would prefer buttons)

Other Remarks

  • functionality for sketching
