Using Amphenol cables to wire devices together

Henryk Paluch edited this page Mar 24, 2019 · 9 revisions

Quite often I solve problem how to connect many pins from devices to bread-board. Finally I decided to use Amphenol cables as shown on picture below (from CH341A to LM75A project):

Wiring CH341A, CJMCU-75 and Logical Analyzer together

What you need

  • suitable PCB - breakout-board for Amphenol connector and pins compatible with bread-board
  • Amphenol cables and connectors

PCB for Breakout-board

I designed trivial PCB using my favorite tool Express PCB classic. Design picture is below:

Amphenol breakout-board

Design file is here: ExpressPCB design file

NOTE: Design file contains also some supplemental breakout-patterns:

  • 1x PLC44 socket for Xilinx XC9536XL CPLD
  • 2x SOIC 8-pin with 0.05" pitch

Feel free to replace them with any your design.

PCB Ordering notes:

  • it is easy (order and pay directly from ExpressPCB program)

  • WARNING! Ensure that your entered phone number is short as possible (I used country prefix and spaces which caused last digit to be missing on package label - source of troubles!). It seems that the limit is around 11 characters - after removal of + and spaces - so be careful. Probably omitting country prefix is the only way how to fit into limit (because our mobile number has 9 digits and country prefix at least 3 digits - total 12 characters).

  • used ExpressPCB - MiniBoard Standard

  • shipping price to Czech Republic is prohibitive (around 150 USD => 3 400,- CZK board + UPS shipping and add another 1 100,- CZK for 21% VAT and 300,- CZK Clearance fee (not toll fee) => total price around 4500,- CZK => around 200 USD).

NOTE: There is no toll paid (for packages under 150 EUR only VAT is paid) which is this case, but the package must be proceed through clearance anyway).
