Command SOP
This document is only for the authorized reading of members belonging to the Northern Light's command board. Reading this without authorization will result in immediate dismissal. Any command board distributing this will also face dismissal.
If you're reading this, by now it's no secret this ship defies all scientific explanation. Where it came from, who owned it, what it's purpose was or who built it we have no current answers to. However what secrets the Northern Light holds will be the discovery of the century, and as one of it's joint owners the credit will be yours too when we all finally discover what makes this vessel tick.
For the moment however your job is to manage your relevant department and do your best to maintain the illusion that this is a purely exploratory venture, how you do that comes down to your relevant SOP and job title.
On a fully staffed shift, the command structure of the Northern Light should look like this
- The Captain on duty at the time
- The Executive officer, who is next in line for command should the Captain retire for the night or become unable to command
- The other department command staff, who step up to executive command depending on the situation and who is most available at the time. It should be noted that while the Church's eldest acolyte is a member of command, their status as investors on the light make them a last consideration.
The ship's alert level can be updated from any console with a command oversight software, most often found on the bridge.
Normal operating conditions, only bring the ship down to this level when you are sure beyond a doubt the current threat has passed.
Code Blue is when we have a minor medical triage or structure breach situation, or Aegis suspects a security issue. This will grant the relevant department handling the issue extended privileges and it's your duty to announce just what the issue is and what personnel are on it. If more than one department needs to be at work, coordinate between them.
Red Alert is for a confirmed, major threat that must be handled. Just like code blue make sure to alert the crew of just what the crisis is and who has even more extended powers during this. Most likely multiple departments will be involved so it'll be up to you and fellow command to coordinate between each other. Aegis should immediately detain anyone not following orders.
Code Delta is reserved only for a situation that requires a full destruction of the vessel. From either exsurgent threats or to keep it from enemy hands. While you and the crew are not expected to go down with the ship, this might be the case. Anyone not following your, or your fellow command orders can and should be pacified by any means required.
In Aegis' brig we've stowed a 200 kiloton fission explosive. While not as powerful as an AM warhead - it does the job. The device is activated by a hardware-only disk and six-digit code of which only some of us will get a fraction of for security reasons. In event the device MUST be detonated, consult with your fellow command staff first to piece together the authorization code and form a plan of evacuation. The authorization disk will be held with the ship's Captain or in his office. To deploy the device...
- Set the bomb to be deploy-able via a panel on the front.
- Insert the disk
- Enter the complete code
- Set the time, anchoring bolts, and safety off.
Never give your part of the code out in any circumstance. Doing so will result in immediate revocation of crew status and what that entails.
This section is to let all command staff know just who and what may try to take the Northern Light from us, Aegis should not be wholly informed of this information, only what they need to know to keep an eye out.
Before our benefactors sold this vessel to us, Solgov wished to confiscate the vessel under an executive order. While legally they have no right to take it, we are in Nullspace. Be alert for anyone with strong patriotic ties to the Terran Federation.
While the Skrellian government has given no outward comment or knowledge of the Northern Light, they also might make an attempt to take it from us. Again keep yourself aware of any suspect activity from those with loyal ties to the Diplomatic Fleet.
This cult is not a deckhand story, we have many classified reports of just how real they are. If anyone among the crew is leaning hard into socialist propaganda, have Aegis and medical take a look at them ASAP.
It's a common occurrence holes to decks that don't, or shouldn't exist sometimes pop up. These kind of anomalies are the perfect chance to study the ship. While some crew will quietly loot it for profit, this act should be discouraged. Make it known that if these pits are found to let the closest command or research personnel know so a proper expedition(with looting rights!) can be set up. The crew will be much more keen to report these anomalies if they're promised a spot to come along and a small profit out of it.
We do not know where it is, part of our mission is to find it. Some of our research experts suspect the drive might be responsible for this ship's state, but until we find it, we'll never know. If anyone questions too hard on the drive's location politely, but firmly inform them that it's classified for safety reasons. Update As of 9/7/2422 the Drive has been sighted by both command and general crew of all departments, this story is no longer valid. Updates will be forthcoming as we learn more.
You among many others are now owners to the greatest scientific anomaly of the century. Share with your department or crew only what they need to know and we'll make it back to civilized space as heroes.
