Alert Levels and Their Meaning:

The Northern Light uses a standard color-coded alert system as used across most installations and vessels in the galaxy, following Solgov workplace safety guidelines - any look at a fire alarm, or habitat lighting should inform you at what level of alert your ship is at and how to respond.

Green

Green, or all clear - is the normal operating level of your workplace. With no known security, structure, viral or mechanical threats. You will be able to know this by the normal fluorescent lighting and green light on fire alarms.

Blue

At blue alert, there has been one or many incidents that point to a suspected security, structure, atmospheric, viral, triage or mechanical threat - or a combined situation of these examples. At blue alert depending on the context of threat some departments may have authority over you. I.E. During a major series of hull breaches all engineering staff orders should be followed, or during a viral outbreak, all medical personel’s requests. To know if it's a blue alert, once again check with your nearest fire alarm, or mind that the ambient lighting of your workplace may change blue.

Red

If your installation or vessel is at red alert - there has been a major and confirmed security, structure or medical threat. At this level security personnel may be in full hazard gear, and the relevant department handling the crisis has full authority to solve or mitigate it depending on command staff’s discretion. Obey all command and departmental orders for your safety and the safety of others.

Delta

If your installation or vessel has reached Code Delta there has been a security or exsurgent threat that warrants a total self destruct and/or evacuation. Every and all command staff orders must be followed for everyone’s continued safety - not doing so may result in extreme measures to keep order.

What is Contraband and What Isn’t?

Ship contraband is defined as such: “Any article or device that can compromise the health, security or safety of a Nanotrasen workplace beyond a reasonable degree.” Which is to say that while your workplace tools or equipment COULD pose a hazard to yourself, others or the structure - it’s intent is not. However an explosive device would be contraband as it’s only purpose is those three things.

Substance and Narcotic Contraband Policy

The Northern Light prides itself on being a pioneer of workplace freedom regarding recreational substance use to cope with productivity demands. Allowing most safe, controlled substances to be used in mild amounts on work hours. However this is limited to the following conditions.

  • It does not negatively affect an crewman's ability to work.
  • It does not have any immediate, negative health or psychological effects.
  • It is not banned by your workplace’s local regulations.
  • Command staff approve of the substance as safe and mostly non-addictive.

Firearm and Device Contraband Policy

Unfortunately despite the salvage crew's best efforts and our security's contractor's diligence. Not all aggressive pests have been exterminated from the vessel. This combined with our presence in unregulated space means as a crewman you are allowed a reasonable personal self defense weapon if you should need it to keep your workplace pest free under these guidelines.

  • It should be a firearm or bladed/blunt weapon that can be concealed or holstered and put into safety when not in use.
  • If it is a firearm it should have less than lethal rounds, or a less than lethal firing mode. While some flora or mechanical hazards won’t yield to taser or riot rounds - you use lethal munitions at your own risk.
  • It should be a ‘reasonable’ weapon for it’s purpose. I.E. you do not need anti-armor rifles or explosive weapons to deal with mutated pests.
  • Any device or tool that compromises or bypasses standard access requirements, secure communication channels or workplace structure without good reason. Should not be permitted in an crewman’s possession.
  • Any armor, clothing, or emblem that shows one as a hostile actor to Solgov, or the ship itself.
  • Any combat-rated voidsuit or hardsuit equal to or superior in protection to the voidsuits assigned to CAS personnel.

How to Handle Ship Conflicts

Let's face it, life aboard a vessel at void is hard and stressful. If you’ve found yourself in a verbal or otherwise conflict with another crewman or contractor, the following guidelines should be followed to prevent any undue escalation and hopefully seek a resolution.

  • If it is a purely social or verbal issue. Remain calm and walk away if need be - angry words or a physical confrontation can’t be taken back.
  • Try to approach the issue with the party or parties again after some time to settle.
  • If the situation still can’t be resolved - your supervisor, or command may be able to help.
  • Just because you are armed, doesn’t mean you have the final say.

In Closing

Welcome aboard and thank you again, we at Northern Light command can't promise the journey will always be easy, but with your cooperation we'll get home together.
