Overview

  • Species Type: Sapient Humanoid Primate
  • Population: ~30 Billion
  • Population Demographic Majority: Genetically Modified Human
  • Common Language: Sol Common
  • Government Type: Federal Republic

A species dating back roughly 200,000 years old, humanity is by far the most genetically varied species to date in the galaxy both cosmetically and biologically. Typically known as upright, bipedal primate-likes without fur the 'average' look of the human has changed so radically two humans from different homes might be nearly completely alien to each other in look and function.

Biology

An estimated 85% of humanity has been genetically engineered through artificial means. While most specimens keep the natural bipedal physiology, the past two centuries of 'bug fixes' to the human body and immune system have become the norm to the modern Terran. Typically a human is a bipedal, furless primate with an upright structure supported by a strong spine. Biologically complete with a cardiac, pulmonary, digestive and reproductive system that uses the typical male and female reproductive method with a 9 month gestation period. While this is the tried and true human refined by years of natural selection, it is no longer the strict norm and seen as more of a relic.

History

Originally home to the planet Terra, humanity's history is seen as complex, violent and splintered. While every species' history and politics is defined by it's nations and the resulting conflicts, humanity is known as one of the most splintered species in both history, culture and current politics, violence between the species only stemmed by how much space separates it's religions and factions. Facing overpopulation and planet of limited space and resources the nations of Terra first heavily invested in occupying their home system in 2050, with Luna, Mars and 'The Belt' occupied and sustainable by 2125 while the rest of the Sol system and it's eight planets became population centers in the following hundred years.

Aggressively curious and reproductive. Humanity eventually pondered expanding to other solar systems that could become habitable with the groundbreaking developments in genetic engineering and materials science that allowed such hellscapes as Pluto, Europa, Titan and Venus to be livable. The question was put on hold as the prospect of 'slow boating' via cryogenics over the decades to form seed colonies didn't appeal to many. However with the discovery of the theory of a certain blue-tinged buffer matter state unofficially coined Bluespace, the applications of it to reach FTL travel made the systems of Tau Ceti, and Alpha Centuri appealing to colonists who didn't want to fully leave the rest of humanity behind.

By 2270 The first BSG(Blue Space Gate) has become fully built, between Pluto and Tau Ceti - as a symbolic test of it's function a champagne bottle was first sent through and received on the other side, harking to the ritual of christening ships by smashing champagne bottles on the hull. With the possibility of inter-system travel within the average lifetime, humanity had officially become a type 1.5 species.

Current Day

Despite it's many occupied systems, humanity is still a very secular species only united by their federal defense pact Solgov. Colonies and habitats exist for the sake of niche lifestyles, scientific study, religious isolation or even sometimes just spite. Only on the outside looking in does humanity look like a properly united species, while it's members know just what little common ground they have now.
