What is a Posicube?

As computing technology has advanced through the centuries as well as neural mapping and quantum theory. It seemed destined that the logical conclusion to it all would be the synthetic brain. A literal cube made up of superconductive and photonic materials. The Poistronic cube is both a processor and compiling software that rapidly builds a neural map much like an organic brain would look. Creating both a medically and legally defined person. In short, a true AI.

History

The history of the Positronic Cube all said is rather dull and undramatic. By the 22nd century when quantum theory started seeing applications in communication and early supercomputer models. It was only logical that a team of GenTech Software's finest would try to be the first to create a true AI. While the neural interface(commonly known as the MMI) had been around for years. The processing power of these brain-piloted computing or cyborg shells were limited by just what brain inhabited them and organic limits on intelligence.

While AIs have existed for decades they were limited by their need to naturally learn and grow. However with quantum computing the months it would take to build and teach an AI could be done in minutes hypothetically.

While early models showed promise, it took twenty years before GenTech revealed their first 'real' AI - SASI, or Self Aware Synthetic Intelligence in a media interview with it taking questions on behalf of GenTech.

Naturally what followed were questions of AI rights and the dangers of them. However GenTech as genre savvy as they were closely followed the mapping of the human brain, limits and all. Proving to the old United Nations at the time in court hearings that positronic intelligences could not self improve and while 'smarter' than humans in thinking speed and cognitive retention, showed no ability to greatly surpass anything organic.

AI citizenship and rights were however a much more complex issue. In 2281 Geneva courts ruled that there was no basis of positronic intelligences to be property as they showed as much intelligence and emotional empathy as human beings. However they were to be legally defined as charges to the company or individual that had compiled them. Legal stipulations were included for positronic intelligences to apply for citizenship to UN member nations under immigration channels.

Applications Today

Today 'posicubes' make up a large part of the labor market in Solgov and Skrellian space while being declared abominations by the Dominion. Often working in industry and administration that have been long automated by 'basic' AI. Positronic rights have migrated well over the legal structure of Solgov under it's federal definition of human. Many colonies and systems open to granting older positronic intelligences citizenship.
